Research Interests and Biography
Luisa Gerstgrasser holds a Master’s degree in Science and Technology Studies from the University of Vienna and a Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences/ Liberal Arts and Sciences from University College Freiburg.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of technology, health, and society, with a particular focus on the social, ethical, and political dimensions of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence in healthcare. She is interested in how values, power relations, and different perspectives shape the development and use of technologies, and in how these can be incorporated into responsible and participatory technology development and assessment.
Since July 2026, she is Research Associate at the ExoEnhance Project at the University of Mannheim. In the ExoEnhance project she will be conducting research on technologies for bodily enhancement (exoskeletons) to investigate subjective bodily experience, social integration, and ethical legitimacy. Thereby her research draws on qualitative and participatory approaches to explore issues of autonomy, justice, participation, and the social embedding of technology.
Beyond research, Luisa is passionate about science communication and public engagement — designing playful, participatory workshops that invite people to explore science, technology, and ethics through coding, tinkering, and dialogue.
Research interests: AI, digital health, critical innovation studies, feminist technology studies, technology assessment, transdisciplinary & participatory research
