The super-convergence of digital technologies, and in particular artificial intelligence, is enabling profound innovations that affect all areas of society, from industrial production, public administration, science and research, healthcare to military applications. These developments raise important philosophical, ethical, legal, social and political questions regarding the interaction of human and AI systems.

Brain Data, Neurotechnology and Fundamental Rights

Together with colleagues from neuroscience, computer science, ethics, philosophy, law and other fields we work on developing guidelines and governance frameworks for the responsible collection, aggregation and use of brain data, particularly regarding data from consumer neurotechnology devices and applications.

Agency and Neurotechnology

We will conduct phenomenological interviews with patients that are or have been treated with neurotechnological devices, for example with deep brain stimulation (DBS) for neurological or psychiatric disorders or brain-computer interfaces for communication or other assistance.

Social Robotics

Together with our colleague and FRIAS Research Fellow (2019-2020) Shelly Levy-Tzedek, head of the Cognition, Aging and Rehabilitation Lab at the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, we explore fundamental philosophical concepts as well as ethical, legal and social aspects of human-robot interaction and cooperation, such as trust, agency and autonomy.
